"There has always been a negative stigma surrounding putting our elderly in nursing homes. I would like to try to dispel some of this disdain, the view that we "chuck" these old folks into homes because we couldn't care less.

We do this because we actually do care - a great deal.

My family has placed my grandmother in a nursing home simply because it is the most loving thing to do."

Using techniques borrowed from silicon chip design, researchers at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., created a network of channels in soft sheets of collagen, a main component of skin. Body cells fill those channels with blood vessels — and that crucial blood supply, in turn, coaxes skin to regrow."

"Ontario’s long waiting list for nursing homes has led to an unusual standoff at the William Osler Health Centre.

For the last six months, a 75-year-old Brampton woman has refused to vacate a hospital bed even though she no longer requires hospital care. Ivy Chand is waiting for a bed to become available in the long-term care facility of her choice. It’s her legal right."

"Why do we celebrate Father’s Day? Someone replied recently “Because we celebrate Mother’s Day, of course.”

It was always clear why we celebrated Mother’s Day. In our family, Mom worked a full-time job, kept the house, did the grocery shopping and tended to our hurts, physical and emotional. And Mother’s Day was the one day set aside to honor and celebrate our love and appreciation. So, it was breakfast in bed, a shower of gifts and Sunday dinner out. Everyone knows when Mother’s Day is and plans are made well in advance. The cards are bought and mailed, the florist called and dinner reservations made....

But what about Dad? In most traditional families Dad is...."

A Japanese scientist has developed a 'meat' burger made out of human excrement.

Mitsuyuki Ikeda, a researcher from the Okayama Laboratory, came up with the novel approach to number ones after Tokyo Sewage asked him to come up with a way of using up the city's waste."
