Yet now the 62-year-old is best known as the founder of Rediff.com, an Indian social media website. Roughly a third of India’s internet users come to Rediff every day, mainly for its e-mail service. That and India’s emerging-market growth profile explain the lossmaking company’s appeal to US investors, who currently value it at roughly $220m on New York’s Nasdaq. Rediff has long been seen as a takeover target for Google or Yahoo, which both have significant operations in India."

"TORONTO — The Ontario government will examine a World Health Organization warning about a possible link between cellphones and cancer, but won't take any immediate action to warn consumers, Health Promotion Minister Margarett Best said Wednesday.
The United Nations agency reported Tuesday that the type of electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellphones and other wireless devices could possibly cause cancer.
The New Democrats want warning labels slapped on cellphones and smart phones to caution users about the possible increased risk of cancer, but Best said for now she'll consult more experts."
"The angry chatroom"

"If the intention of the French in setting-up the e-G8 forum was to replicate some of the frisson of its big brother, the G8 summit, then they succeeded.
The factions and fissures of the technology world are well known - as they are in grown-up politics - but rarely do they face off in the real world.
What is going on in Paris right now is like the physical manifestation of an angry internet chat room.
Imagine if the Pirate Bay came face-to-face with Sony BMG, or a teenage downloader was confronted by a major movie distributer."
