"TB: Plan to tackle rise in drug-resistant cases"

"A plan has been drawn up to try to tackle cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis in 53 European countries.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has described the problem as "alarming".

Eastern Europe has the highest level of infection, while in Western Europe, London has the highest TB rate of any capital city."

"Rare mix-up results in ‘hybrid’ butterfly"

"U. TEXAS-AUSTIN (US) — A tiger swallowtail butterfly evolved when two other species hybridized—a common occurrence with plants, but a rarity in the animal world.
Researchers say the Appalachian tiger swallowtail, Papilio appalachiensis—that evolved from mixing between the Eastern tiger swallowtail, P. glaucus, and the Canadian tiger swallowtail, P. Canadensis—rarely reproduces with its parental species and is a unique mixture of the two in both its outward traits and inward genetic makeup."

"Since the bottom dropped out of the economy in 2008, my family has gone from affluent suburban living to life below the poverty line, in a shabby house in the “wrong” part of town—with no car. We’ve given up most luxuries, and sold many of our possessions. We’ve become admirably “green,” as a benefit of paring down to the simplest needs. We have chickens, a vegetable garden, and a front door that is always open and ready to welcome a neighbor. People often comment on how we are living with a softer impact upon the earth. But if I am honest, I have to acknowledge that the most dramatic changes we have made were those that were forced upon us."
