"Faster than light particles found, claim scientists"

By Rob Winters - Published on Friday, 23 September 2011 08:09

"Particle physicists detect neutrinos travelling faster than light, a feat forbidden by Einstein's theory of special relativity.

It is a concept that forms a cornerstone of our understanding of the universe and the concept of time – nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

But now it seems that researchers working in one of the world's largest physics laboratories, under a mountain in central Italy, have recorded particles travelling at a speed that is supposedly forbidden by Einstein's theory of special relativity."

"Bluetooth devices security risks rising : research"

By Rob Winters - Published on Friday, 23 September 2011 08:05

"(Reuters) - Finnish data security firm Codenomicon says software faults in Bluetooth devices are becoming easier to exploit, putting users at risk.

Bluetooth radio technology is widely used to link cellphones to their accessories, and its security has not been considered a major problem.

Codenomicon, however, said in a research paper that it found critical problems in all Bluetooth-enabled car-kits it tested this year.

Bluetooth car-kits allow users to talk hands-free while they drive. Faulty security can give criminals access to information on users' phones, and coding errors could lead to damage to the car's electronic system and put drivers' safety at risk."

By Rob Winters - Published on Thursday, 22 September 2011 07:03

"A fashion designer may have found the answer to gun violence - stylish clothing for men and women that is completely bulletproof.

God help us.

Designer Miguel Caballero first developed his line in his native Colombia, where wealthy clients needed protection from Medellin drug cartel hit men, but didn't like the bulky look of bulletproof vests.

After all, if you must run away from a shooter, why not do it in couture?"

"Magical Thinking—for Skeptics"

By Rob Winters - Published on Thursday, 22 September 2011 06:58

"Years after his death, John Lennon went on tour. He visited, among other locations, Oklahoma City, Waco, New Orleans, and Virginia Tech, spreading a message of peace and love at the sites of tragic events. You may not have recognized him, though, covered in scars and cigarette burns. But to hear him, there would have been no mistaking his presence. On this journey, Lennon assumed the form of a piano, specifically the one on which he composed Imagine. "It gives off his spirit, and what he believed in, and what he preached for many years," says Caroline True, the tour director and a colleague of the Steinway's current owner, singer George Michael. Free of velvet ropes, it could be touched or played by anyone."

"Child cage fight organisers will not face police action" Wrong on so many levels!

By Rob Winters - Published on Thursday, 22 September 2011 06:54

"The organisers of "barbaric" cage fighting involving children as young as eight will face no police action, it has been announced.

Concerns were raised about whether two boys were put at risk by taking part in a bout at Greenlands Labour Club in Preston, Lancs, in front of a 250-strong adult audience.

But a spokesman for Lancashire Police said today the force had "looked into this matter fully and there are no issues for us to pursue".

The video of the bout, which lasted 10 minutes and featured a scantily clad ring girl parading between rounds, was taken of a sold-out ticket-only event at the club."
