"Blacks in nursing homes have higher risk of sores"

By Rob Winters - Published on Tuesday, 12 July 2011 21:10

"(Reuters Health) - Black nursing home residents are more likely than white residents to develop blisters and sores that can eventually lead to muscle and bone damage, according to a new study.

The findings suggest the disparities are mostly the result of differences in care between homes with predominantly black or white patients -- and not that individual nursing homes are necessarily providing better care to whites than blacks, researchers said."

Curing Aging

By Rob Winters - Published on Tuesday, 12 July 2011 07:19

"Hammond is an elite athlete. He works out two hours a day with a trainer, pushing himself through sprints, runs, and strength-building exercises. His resting heart rate is below 50. He’s won three gold medals and one silver in amateur competitions this year alone, running races from 100 to 800 meters. In his division, he’s broken four national racing records. His secret?"

China's longest sea bridge

By Rob Winters - Published on Monday, 11 July 2011 21:27

"The 26.4 mile-long Qingdao Haiwan Bridge - the world's longest bridge over sea water - opens to traffic in China.

The marathon-length Qingdao Haiwan Bridge would easily span the English Channel and is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the American state of Louisiana.

The vast structure links the centre of the booming port city of Qingdao in eastern China's Shandong Province with the suburb of Huangdao, spanning the wide blue waters of Jiaozhou Bay."

"Google doubling Google+ population"

By Rob Winters - Published on Monday, 11 July 2011 21:21

"The Google+ team, facing strong demand for the new social-networking service, has expansion on its mind.

Google briefly let Google+ users invite new members last night in a plan to double the social network's population. And Google has begun detailing its plans for letting business users, not just individuals, use the service starting later this year.

Google has been limiting the individual sign-up rate, leading to frustration among many who want to get in."

"Is 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' snubbing the Emmys?"

By Rob Winters - Published on Monday, 11 July 2011 21:19

"There's something odd about "Curb Your Enthusiasm" debuting its eighth season now – just weeks after the close of the Emmy eligibility period. It looks like Larry David's show deliberately chose to dodge the race. Why? Maybe it's because Emmy voters haven't displayed much, well, enthusiasm toward "Curb" in the past."
