"Sexual Orientation Obsessions and Suicidal Thoughts"

"Among those with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), obsessional fears can come in many forms, and worries about sex are among the most common. Previously, I described one type of sexual fear that is often misunderstood — sexual orientation obsessions in OCD (SO-OCD). In OCD, obsessions are unwanted thoughts, images, or impulses that cause distress and won't go away.

To better understand the nature of these fears and the people who have them, I conducted a study of over a thousand people visiting one of several OCD websites. I used a battery of specific questions about sexual orientation worries, developed with input from OCD experts at the University of Pennsylvania and other experienced colleagues."

"Compound halts foodborne bugs"

CORNELL (US) — "Researchers have found a compound that is safe for mammals but stops the foodborne bacteria Listeria in its tracks.

In a year when cantaloupe tainted with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes killed 30 people, Cornell University researchers’ discovery of a compound that controls this deadly bacteria—and possibly others—is great news.

The compound, fluoro-phenyl-styrene-sulfonamide (FPSS), is safe for mammals but interrupts a mechanism in Listeria that controls genes that are expressed when the bacterium experiences a rapid change in its environment."

"RCMP arrest two B.C. residents in 2000 slaying in India"

"The mother and uncle of Jassi Sidhu, murdered in India on June 8, 2000 in a purported honour killing, were taken into custody in Maple Ridge, B.C. to await extradition.
Yesterday, the RCMP's "E" Division, based in Vancouver, announced the arrests. Taken into custody were Malkit Kaur Sidhu, 63, and Surjit Singh Badesha, 67. Both are residents of Maple Ridge and are the mother and uncle of Jaswinder (Jassi) Kaur Sidhu, who was 25 at the time she was murdered in India."
