"Record number of women elected"

"There will be more female faces in the House of Commons following Monday's federal election that saw 76 women elected.
In the 2008 election, 69 women were elected. One resigned last year, bringing the number down to 68 female MPs when the election was called in March.
According to the unofficial results posted on Parliament's website, the NDP elected the most women MPs — 40 of them are among the 102 MPs who make up the new Official Opposition party. Twenty-seven of the women MPs are from Quebec."

"Mayor Rob Ford hesitated before throwing his support behind Conservative Leader Stephen Harper. As leader of a junior level of government, dependent on the provincial and federal levels, he knows the risks of coming out openly for one party over another, even if his conservative sympathies are obvious to all.
But as the May 2 vote approached, his former campaign manager, Nick Kouvalis, showed the mayor polling data indicating that Mr. Harper’s Conservatives could take up to 70 seats in Ontario, positioning them to win a majority government."
"Ignatieff quits as Liberal leader"

"Michael Ignatieff is quitting as the Liberal leader after his party took an electoral drubbing on Monday night.The Liberals were reduced to 34 seats in the House of Commons down from 77 and won only 18.9 per cent of the popular vote.
Not only did Ignatieff lead the party to its worst showing in its history, but he also lost his Toronto-area seat in Etobicoke-Lakeshore."

"The Conservatives have finally captured their coveted majority government in an historic election that vaulted the NDP to a stunning second-place finish, making them the official opposition, pushing aside the Liberals to a humiliating third.
At the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper expressed elation at his huge win."What a great night," Harper told more than 1,500 cheering Conservative supporters.

"Patients who take a certain type of medication to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease appear to have a lower risk of death and other complications than those who take a similar treatment, new Canadian research has found.A study published Tuesday in the Annals of Internal Medicine found Ontario residents with COPD who were prescribed long-acting beta-agonists had a lower risk of death, hospitalization and other problems than those who were prescribed anticholinergics."
