"Disappearing words: wittol, drysalter, and alienism"

By Rob Winters - Published on Sunday, 21 August 2011 18:30

The terms 'drysalter', a dealer in certain chemical products and foods, and 'alienism', the study and treatment of mental illness, have also faded from use.

Some of the vanished words are old-fashioned modes of transport such as the 'cyclogiro', a type of aircraft propelled by rotating blades, and charabanc, a motor coach."

"Protein is a vital part of a healthy diet, helping with the growth and repair of tissues, including skin, bones, eyes and, most importantly, muscles. It also helps support a healthy immune system. But while it's common in our culture to be concerned about sufficient protein intake, many of us (particularly those who eat lots of meat or slurp back protein shakes) may be consuming too much.
